Grandma’s Wisdom (2016)
Grandma's Wisdom offers a snapshot into the life of Gwendolyn Bennett, my maternal grandmother, as she realizes her life's aspiration. At 69-years old, Ms. Bennett is still fiery and determind to become a prolific herbalist. Set in Trenton, SC, the birthplace of my great-great grandmother Henrietta Anderson--and the only motherland I know--Grandma's Wisdom highlights the multiplicity of black life.
Free Rein (ongoing)
Free Rein is an experimental short documentary that contemplates the complex social issues, such as intergenerational trauma and interpersonal violence, that affect Black queer relationships and communities in Chicago. Filmmaker Ireashia M. Bennett connects with other Black Queer and Trans folks who share their journey committing to healing through radical, Black queer love.
